The Last Knight of the Crying Spire - Spectre In the Maze
Mr Johnson commissioned the team to look find out what happened to a research team for him. His team was looking for a lead into an ancient artifact: a sword formally owned by a knight. The team consisted of three researchers; Vanessa Ivanko, John Marr and Elizabeth Palmer and were staying in a hotel in a remote town in the Cahaba, Alabama, CAS. The Johnson had expected the research group to report in 18 hours ago and they hadn’t hence the ad went up and the job offered. He suspects possible foul play, rivals or supernatural phenomenon. How mission is to recover their research and find out what happened to them.
Visiting the hotel, the receptionist lied to PCs and said that the research group had checked out but Collateral and Hoxton hacked the camera feed to show that they voluntary left each on separate nights, one by one.. On investigating their room, the PCs found a letter from Elizabeth to John advising that she walked into the local hedge maze to look for him. (left just in case he return before she does.
With a bit of cunning, the PCs managed to locate and retrieve the luggage. Gundo retrieved two comlinks and a datapad.
Comlink one: belonged to Elizabeth which contained a journey showing their suspicions. and that the other two had left the motel, drawn towards the maze and not returned. She commented that she didn’t like the other two for “professional reasons”.
Comlink two: Contained the diary of the travels of a random tourist checking out the maze. He went missing too. Also credstick.
Datapad: initialed E.P. contains research notes showing that the sword they were after was Kaledvoulc’h (Breton for Excalibur if that means anything). Suggests that a man who used to own the sword maybe buried in this town. Also advises that John held the other research notes on his comlink.
Meanwhile the party groups in the maze, Bolt summoned a force 6 fire spirit to protect Hoxton as he was the first to enter. Following a trace on two unattended comlinks, they make their way though the maze. To save time Gungdo pulls out his mono filament chainsaw and makes a hole in the hedge. After stepping through the first time they notice a ghostly being behind them but it fades from view.
The PCs make a few more holes before a local comes to ask what they are doing. Hoxton and Collateral try to fob him off, but a group appears to gather and they claim its time to do something about the disappearances.
As they gather, they notice the villages are carrying weapons and so the PCs run into the maze to make some distance between them. The PCs eventually get to the other end of the maze and find there are locals nearby who are looking for them. Hera and Gungdo ambush one by pulling though a maze hedge and quietly taking him out.
However they are heard and others start to race around the corner, Bolt summons a magical barrier to stop them. As this is happening Collateral climbs the hedge to get a look at where they came from and comes face to face with a giant spirit!
It’s claws swipe down to the left and right of collateral, ripping through the hedge. It then lifts the hedge with Collateral on it and flings it over its shoulder.
The townfolk rush back around from barrier and towards the new hole in the hedge.
Hera reacts first and immediately strikes it with her killing hands, the spirit less prepared than it thought, shrieks in pain as Hera’s fist punctures its hide.
It turns it attention to her immediately and tries to create confusion in her mind but fails.
Gungdo follows up sending an error through the weak spot Hera created, killing the spirit.
